Manchester United are ready to offload Fellaini to make room for a new midfield signing.
Turkish media reported earlier today that Galatasaray are in for the Belgium international.
The Belgium international played an increasingly important role at United under Jose Mourinho last season but his stint at Old Trafford looks like it will go to an end.
And Gala sporting director Cenk Ergun has now confirmed discussions are taking place.
“Fellaini will leave Manchester United and he is now in our radar,” Ergun told Turkish outlet Ajansspor.
“There will be surprises (in the transfer window), we are in talks with Fellaini.
“We have made an approach, we are close and if we get Fellaini we will end our pursuit of (Villarreal’s Alfred) N’Diaye.
“We need a player like Fellaini who can move around in midfield.”
Marouane Fellaini played on Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA.
Fellaini’s exit would likely spark United into action to find a new central midfielder.
Nemanja Matic has been sounded out as an ideal recruit – but United may struggle to get Chelsea to sell to one of their title rivals.
Leander Dendoncker is also on United’s radar and last night Anderlecht’s sporting director Herman van Holsbeeck admitted a deal for the Belgian could be done.
“We want to cherish him, but if a club is willing to pay between €25m (£22.3m) and €35m (£31.3m), we have a problem.”
