The Bafana Bafana of South Africa have inflicted defeat on the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the first time in any competitive international game.
The Eagles started the match with some great momentum and they did have so many chances at goal but they were all wasted.
The first half ended with the three-time AFCON champions clearly dominating proceedings and way ahead in terms of chance created.
In the second half, there were some end-to-end attack tussle which gave way to South Africa’s Tokelo Rantie to head past Daniel Akpeyi in goal to break the deadlock in the 54th minute.
The Eagles then tried to fight their way back into the match but suffered a huge setback as substitute Percy Tau scored with his first touch of the game after beating the offside trap set by Nigeria defence.
The second goal paved way for the Bafana Bafana to completely dominate the game and all Super Eagles players’effort to pull one back proved abortive.
The loss to South Africa is Nigeria’s first in the past 7 games.
