Some Manchester United fans may have lost faith in Anthony Martial, but it’s clear he still has a lot of fans around the world. In fact, the higher-ups at Barcelona are contemplating making a January move for the talented Frenchman.
French Football report that Martial is drawing January interest from both Barca and Sevilla. The Catalan giants allegedly made contact with the starlet’s agent several weeks ago. Unfortunately for Martial, the La Liga giants haven’t followed up with a concrete offer.
Sevilla, on the other hand, definitely want to bring Martial in during the January window. They have Champions League football to offer, but it seems the talented attacker won’t be swayed by that reality. Martial is only interested in leaving Old Trafford for another one of Europe’s truly elite clubs.
That presents Barcelona with a very interesting decision. They don’t have a real need for Martial at the moment, but that doesn’t make his talent any less tantalizing. He could provide the club with a true game changer off the bench. It’s just the sort of luxury purchase that allows Barcelona to be one of the biggest clubs in the world.
From Martial’s perspective, sitting on the bench at Barcelona is certainly better than being jerked in and out of Jose Mourinho’s starting XI. The French ace could also benefit from a fresh start under Luis Enrique. Of course there’s also the reality that Martial would likely get another new manager within the next few weeks.
Despite the conversations between Martial’s representatives and Barcelona, don’t expect to see the player move in January. It’s much more likely that he’ll leave Manchester United this summer. If he doesn’t end up back in Mourinho’s starting XI consistently this year, he may end up in a better place. Moving to Barcelona might be just what he needs to fulfill his world-class potential.
