Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Asisat Oshoala all won awards at the 2016 GLO CAF awards held in Abuja, Nigeria.
Alex Iwobi replaced Ex-Golden Eaglets striker as the Youth player of the year for 2016. Iwobi has had a stellar 2016 so far breaking into Arsenal’s first team after just been in the academy a year ago.
Asisat Oshoala won her second individual African Women player of the year award. Oshoala was instrumental at the 2016 AWCON for the Super Falcons scoring six goals and emerging as top scorer at the tournament. The 22-year-old Nigeria international emerged winner of the women’s biggest individual award in African football ahead of Ghana’s Elizabeth Addo and Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene of Cameroon.
Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho also got among the winners at the GLO-CAF Awards. He was named the Promising Talent of the Year, an individual prize he won in 2013 for helping the Golden Eaglets win the Fifa Under-17 World Cup.
Also, the Super Falcons claimed the 2016 Women’s National Team of the Year award for winning the AWCON in Cameroon.
Coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons Florence Omagbemi lost out on the Coach of the year category to Pitso Mosimane.
