Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has confessed that he really feels bad that he will be missing in action at the Africa Cup of Nations which is set to begin in a couple of days in Gabon.
The Super Eagles finished behind Egypt in the qualification series for the 2017 AFCON; a development which meant they will not be among the 16 teams that will be competing for the continent’s biggest trophy.
Ighalo said in an article published on BBC: “I felt bad – not just me but Nigerians as a whole are not happy.
“Seeing teams playing in the Nations Cup and you see yourself at home you know you’re not going to the Nations Cup, that’s when I am going to feel bad.
“You know you don’t have to dwell on that, we don’t have to kill ourselves about that. We have to work towards the next one and keep pushing, hopefully we will qualify.”
While they rue their AFCON miss-the second in a row; the Super Eagles will take consolation in their perfect start to their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, sitting on six points from two games, after beating Zambia and Algeria.
