Victor Osimhen wins CAF youth player of the year award, Etebo wins most promising talent


Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has crowned his heroics display for Nigeria at the just concluded U17 world cup in Chile and U23 nations cup in Senegal by winning the CAF youth player of the year award, with Dream Team striker winning the most promising talent award.

He beats teamate Kelechi Nwakali, Malian duo Adama Traore and Samuel Diarra and Yaw Yeboah of Ghana to the award given to the best teenage footballer in Africa.

The prize served a big surprise for the lanky striker who celebrated his 17th birthday barely nine days ago. 

Osimhen got the attention of the world when he scored a record 10 goals at the just concluded FIFA U17 world in Chile, winning the Golden boot in the process.

He becomes the second Nigerian to win the award after Kelechi Iheanacho last year.

His prize was presented to him by CAF Executive Committee member, Amadou Diakite.

U17 striker Victor Osimhen and Dream Team forward were rewarded for the achievements in 2015 at the Glo CAF Award held in Abuja.

Both players were in Samson Siasia’s side that won the African U23 Cup of Nations in Senegal late last year.

While Warri Wolves forward Oghenekaro Etebo was also awarded the Most Promising Talent after helping Nigeria lift the African U23 Cup of Nations in Senegal last month in Senegal.
